► Photos BambooWeb.info!
► Seed germination record (test 150529): 10 seeds [829] soaked in clear water for less than 5 h, then laid on moistened tissue paper in transparent breeding box, from 29 May 2015, 34-36 °C daytime highs, diffuse light, 24-25 °C night lows, atmospheric humidity >70%, the first seed began to germinate visibly on the 3rd day after sowing, and 6 seeds germinated by the 9th day. A germination rate of about 60% can be expected. The seeds of this species are susceptible to fungus, therefore one should not sow these seeds all together in a single box, and one should sow them at different dates, locations, and on different media. Seeds of the new harvest [846] were tested in January 2016 (test 160119), and results are similar.

"Indocalamus tessellatus" [833]:
Seedling, 27th day
► The seed supplier from China claimed these seeds to be "Indocalamus tessellatus", but there is currently no proof that they are genuine this species. No vegetative or flowering specimens of the original flowering plants have been seen. In the Flora of China, seeds of Indocalamus tessellatus were briefly described as follows: "Caryopsis ca. 7 × 2.5 mm, style base persistent". The seeds received are dark brown, with persistent style base, and are 9-10 mm long by 1,8-2.0 mm wide, hence they show a more slender shape. An attempt in identifying plants raised from these seeds can be done in a few years, when seedlings have grown big enough. A diagnostic character of Indocalamus tessellatus is the presence of dense hairs along the midrib of the lower leaf-blade surface, and this distinguishes the species from similar Indocalamus latifolius which lacks such hairs.
► Photos of true Indocalamus tessellatus in BambooWeb.info!
► Seed germination (test 151222): The first visibly germinating seed on 9th day; a germination rate of about 50% can be expected. In January 2016, seeds were successfully germinated by a customer from the Americas.
